whether you are running your e cycle in melting hot temperature in summers of Rajasthan or chilling weather in Leh Ladakh performance of your electric cycle must not be change too much.
Now the question is how to select best electric cycle in India?
Here are 7 tips on which you choose your electric cycle
- Motor type
- Motor power
- Battery type, power/Rating in Ah
- Cycle frame body
- Charging time
- Battery casing and mounting place
1. Motor Type
There are lots of motor options available in market like in wheel motor, external motor, Brushed motor , BLDC motor, PMSM motor. in wheel and external motor is your choice by looks of cycle but while choosing motor technology you should thought that what is your requirement. PMSM motor is worked on sin wave and gives you best performance without any jerk or annoying sound but it is more costly, BLDC motor is worked on trapezoidal wave form and make some sounds while working on load condition, Brushed motors having drawbacks that their life span is less due to wearing of brushes frequently. from above discussion it is advisable to opt BLDC motor is you are ok with some sound in your motor because BLDC motor provides good power output in small sizes and they are having less cost then PMSM motors.
2. Motor Power
Yes we all know that more motor power gives you more thrill but it comes with a cost. more power full motor will require bigger battery and drain it rapidly and bigger battery comes in bigger cost so you can go with 250 watt motor if you are not leaving in hilly areas.
3. Battery type, power/Rating in Ah
As space in bicycle is limited so as of now we have non other option then lithium batteries, Lipo4 battery gives you more power in small package and longer life cycle but its cost is high. another option is li ion NMC battery which gives you good power in smaller package but its life cycle is approx. half then Lipo4 batteries.
Choosing bigger batteries are not always good if your daily cycling is not too much. you can choose battery 1.5 times to 2 times of your daily riding. for example if you ride 20Km a day then you should choose 30km to 40km range battery because battery is the most costlier part of electric cycle.
4. Cycle frame body
Light weight frame is good but they are not a mandatory requirement because its not hamper the performance of a electric cycle because you don’t need to pull it by pedaling. so you can easily manage with steel frames also.
Tires are always important part of your vehicle so always choose branded tyre and too fat tyres will gives you less mileage but too thin tires don’t gives good grip on road so you can go with 26×2.35 tire sizes.
6. Charging time
More ampere charger will charge your battery fast but it will blown your battery before its life span. one ampere charger will charge one ampere battery in one hour so 2 ampere charger will take five hours to charge a 10 ampere battery to its full potential. for 5 ampere battery 2 amp charger is good if you are not in hurry always.
7. Battery casing and mounting place
Battery case is always prefer made up of metal instead of plastic because metal cool down your battery fast then plastics and it will keep you safe in case of fire in battery. mounting position of battery is your choice and matter of aesthetics of cycle.
Money is always important so you should not choose over performance bicycle but under performance bicycle is not also advisable.
Under stand your requirements compare on above 7 points and choose wisely.
